The journey of the GT-R & Z Club South Africa began in 2008 when Danie Volschenk purchased a 350Z. His passion for the Z cars led him to approach fellow enthusiasts on the road, inviting them to join him for informal drives. This grassroots effort quickly gained momentum, bringing together like-minded individuals who shared his enthusiasm.

Through his work with Nissan South Africa, Danie met Nancy Reddy, who became actively involved in growing the club. One of the first official events was held at the Wonderboom Airshow in 2010, where the iconic Nissan 370Z vs Aircraft showdown captivated the audience.

In those early days, the club’s energy was infectious, with members organizing runs almost every weekend. A particularly memorable road trip to KwaZulu-Natal saw 27 cars join the convoy. Shortly after, Chris Dahl became a member and was elected Chairman in 2011, at which point the club was still an informal group known as the 350Z Club. Most members communicated through the Nissan Owners Club Forum, each using unique forum usernames.

Recognizing the need to formalize the club, the members sought approval and support from Nissan South Africa and Nissan Japan. After countless phone calls and emails, their efforts paid off. The club received official recognition, including approval for its logo, which met Nissan Japan’s rigorous standards.

Chris Dahl created a formal constitution for the club, which allowed it to establish a bank account and paved the way for sustainable growth. A committee was formed, membership fees were introduced, and sponsorships were secured from member-owned businesses and Nissan South Africa.
